*This is the same exact tutorial I handed to the judges! Only I added pictures because I did not have time to edit them in before the convention because I finished embroidering the last fleur de lis the night before the con.
This is everything about how I made my Princess Garnet cosplay! It has some images [not a lot though, perhaps I will take more in the future] because I couldn't really take pictures of me making it while I was making it >.<
I spent a lot of time on this costume [as my tutorial entails] and I am very happy to have won Best Craftsmanship for Novice with this costume!
I put my heart, sweat and blood into this costume - literally! I hope you enjoy, and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
Notes and Edits
I have been asked this a few times, even by one of the judges who judged my costume for the Masquerade. I am not wearing a wig for this cosplay. That was one of the reasons for me choosing Garnet, because I didn't have to spend $40-50 on a wig when my hair was already the right colour/length.
For the necklace, you can use an octagon shaped prism. I believe Swarovski sells them - I would get the biggest size they have, however, since this is Swarovski, it will be $20-30. That's why I went with the 3 inch tear-drop prism that I purchased on amazon.com for $7. Perhaps someday in the future I will spend the money on an octagon prism from Swarovski, but my dress had already cost nearly $200 and I was not going to spend that kind of money on a crystal @.@ My ticket for the convention was worth that much!
Also I apologize for the quality of the pictures >.< and the lack of them... I really should take pictures of the armbands, necklace, belt close up... that belt went through HELL! Over the course of a three-day convention, it broke around 8 times, I ran out of superglue and had to spend $6 at the hotel for more, and I had to support it with medical tape in the back.... @.@ My crown had also broke [once thank goodness] as well as my necklace when I was spinning for this photoshoot... The accessories for this costume are so incredibly fragile that I am afraid to even wear the costume again!
